Bulgarian mountaineer, Atanas Skatov summited Mt. Cho Oyu (8188m) without the help of supplemental oxygen or Sherpa help on 13th May at 16:20pm (Chinese time). He is the first Bulgarian to have done so.
After having climbed continuously for 13 hours without drinking or eating anything Atanas was extremely exhausted. He had not slept for 2 nights. "I'm a real alpinist now! Minutes after the climb, a thick fog fell and went down. I found footsteps in the snow to the rope and hope to go down safely back to the camp," Atanas posted in his Facebook page.
Atanas Skatov arrived at Base Camp on 22nd April. He reached Camp-1 (6400m) on 26th April, Camp-2 (7150m) on 4th May and Camp-3 on 12th May. He started his summit push on 12th May night and summited Cho Oyu on 13th May morning.
