3 trekkers from Maharashtra died in Himachal, Rescue underway in Lamkhaga and Sunderdunga

This month of October turns tragic for mountain lovers as unfortunate news continues coming from Indian Himalayan states.

SEOC, Kinnaur informed Dream Wanderlust that three trekkers from Maharashtra have reportedly died during their trek to a pass, near Barua Kanda peak, situated between Rohru and Sangla in HP. According to the officials, team members who have already reached the base safely, have confirmed the death of these three trekkers:
Deepak Narayan Rao (58 yrs),
Rajendra Bhalchandra Pathak s/o Sh Bhalchandra Pathak (65 yrs),
Ashok Madhukar Bhalerao s/o Madhukar Bhalerao (64 yrs).

Four members of the same team were heli rescued and sent to Kilba Civil Hospital for medical examination (more details are awaited). Six members have not reached the base yet. They are no the way. The body recovery operation is underway. There were total twenty-two members in this team, including the supporting staff.

Two IAF helicopters flew six times today from Jatoli for Sunderdunga glacier region to trace the missing members of Kanakata pass trek team, Sarit Sekhar Das (35), Chandra Sekhar Das (32), Sagar Dey (27), Sadhan Bask (63), Pritam Ray (25) and supporting staff Khilap Singh. But couldn't carry out rescue operation due to heavy rain and the team was forced to abort the mission at Kathliya. According to, District Information Officer, Bageshwar, the land rescue team, comprising SDRF personnels, porters, guide and local people, is likely to reach the spot near Devi Kund, by today evening.

In Lamkhaga region, ITBP is still continuing its search operation for the two missing members of the Lamkhaga Pass trek team. Mortal remains of seven members of the same team, Anita Rawat, Tanmay Tiwari, Saurabh Ghosh, Subhayan Das, Vikash Makal, Richard Mondal and Upendra Chauhan have already been recovered and two injured members were admitted to hospital.

Amid all these heartbreaking incidents, finally there is a sigh of relief as five trekkers of West Bengal, Ashim Sengupta (49/M), Dr. Subhendu Das (46 yr/M), Amit Chatterjee (48/M), Dr. Debanjan Seal (31/M) and Rajesh Chakraborty (50/M) have been rescued from Borasu Pass by ITBP team and they all are safe now (more details are awaited).
