Dream Wanderlust | May 15 , 2019

We reported formerly that there was a huge possibility of getting a clear weather window from May 14 onwards after the harsh weather stymied the summit push for the past couple of weeks. As it turns out yesterday, this is the first time ever in the history of the Himalayan expeditions that 4 eight-thousander peaks witnessed its route-opening on the same day.

Having started with the first summit on Lhotse at around 10am by 5-Sherpa team, yesterday has correspondingly observed the second successful 8-Sherpa-led summit of the season on Everest approximately at 1:45pm, followed by the third summit on Kangchenjunga by another 4-Sherpa-team at 3:10pm, and summit of the day on Makalu by another set of 5 Sherpas.

On the other hand, Indian mountaineer Debasish Biswas is all set for ascension at Cho Oyu from Camp-2 once a clear weather window is seen. Unfortunately, like last year, Dhaulagiri is still reportedly unclimbed, and most climbers are supposedly turning back. Cory Richards and Esteban Topo Mena are back to lower-altitude Tibetan Plateau at Shegar (4300m) for refreshments after their final round rotation for acclimatization, waiting for steady weather for the summit push.
