Australian mountaineer Andrew Lock is set to receive bravery commendation for helping 3 climbers high on the slopes of Mt. Everest
ABC News | Aug 19 , 2015
Mr. Lock has climbed all of the world's peaks over 8,000 meters, mostly without the help of bottled oxygen. But, in 2004 he was on a filming expedition to Everest when he came across three climbers close to death, suffering acute altitude sickness. Mr Lock said on this occasion he had taken with him three bottles of oxygen needed to survive an 18-hour return trip from the base camp to the summit. He said on his descent he encountered a British, a Mexican and a Canadian climber who were all semi-comatose. So, he gave over his own oxygen supplies, and helped save the trio, just below the summit of the world's highest peak.
