We at Dream Wanderlust take a lot of pleasure, and not a little pride, in sharing the good news with our legion of readers, that we have been felicitated and awarded The Ashok Kumar Sarkar Memorial Award on the 3rd of Dec 2022, for excellence in journalism, and for bringing about a paradigm shift in the reporting of mountaineering and allied activities.
The ceremony was organized by Parvat Abhiyatri Sangha of Kolkata, a sixty two year old mountaineering club, and the one to have organized the first wholly civilian expedition in the country in 1960.
This club was formed under the patronage of the Late Shri Ashok Kumar Sarkar, the owner and editor-in-chief of Ananda Bazar Patrika.
This award ceremony also had their patronage, which made it all the more special for us as the award comes from one of our country's leading and respected media houses.
The other awardees, also felicitated, were: (1) South Calcutta Trekkers Association for their successful ascent of Nanda Devi East in 2019. (2) A five-member team which successfully climbed Ali Rathni Tibba In 2022. (3) Ms Piyali Basak for her brave attempt to climb Everest without supplemental oxygen. (4) Mr Anindya Mukherjee for his pioneering mountaineering, exploration, transcontinental solo cycling in Africa and literary activities.
This award validates our sincere efforts in publishing authenticated, verifiable, reliable and complete reports, over the past so many years, and that we have yet to retract any news for want of veracity.
