Inclement Weather Windows shut Doors to Manaslu

The Winter Expedition to Manaslu which had started on 31st December, 2020, has been called off due to extreme weather.

Spanish mountaineers Alex Txikon and Iñaki Álvarez, Italian mountaineer Simone Moro did not have any luck, in spite of waiting for days for better weather. On the abandonment of their adventure, Txikon said, "We have had it very close but in the end it could not be. The weather reports don't give an improvement for at least 10 days and then we don't know how it will progress. So it is very risky to extend the permit".

Txikon had made a team with Gelum, Cheppal and Namja to bring back equipments from higher camps. They only manage to reach Camp-2 but they failed to reach Camp-3 because of strong winds and waist-deep snow. High spirited Txikon added, "It is well signposted with bamboo, so in October whoever reaches that point will find a store, mats, some food and gas".

The expedition ended on 28th February, 2021, the last day of their permit.

Incidentally, another team member, Italian mountaineer Simone Moro had earlier decided to discontinue his attempt and had left the expedition on 22nd February, 2021.
