Kangchenjunga: Remains of Kuntal and Biplab flown to Kathmandu
Dream Wanderlust | May 19 , 2019
As we have been reported from the Base Camp early in the morning, rescue heli has been flown to Camp-2 of Kangchenjunga to bring down the remains of Kuntal and Biplab, who died on 16th May during their Kangchenjunga expedition.
Both the bodies have now been transported to Kathmandu successfully by the rescue helicopter.
Kuntal and Biplab were part of a-five-member expedition team (Kuntal Karar, Sk Sahabuddin, Rudra Prasad Halder, Ramesh Roy and Biplab Baidya) on Kangchenjunga. They lost their lives at around 8200m while descending from the summit or from near the summit on 16th May.
A-six-member expert Sherpa team led by Dawa Ongchu Sherpa carried out a heroic recovery mission on 17th May. The mission was jointly organised by Giripremi and Peak Promotion. The Sherpa team brought the remains of two ill fated climbers to Camp-2 yesterday afternoon.
Two fellow climbers (Rudra Prasad Halder and Ramesh Roy) were also injured at Camp-4. However Ramesh and Rudra have been rescued from the mountain and admitted to a Kathmandu based hospital on 18th May.
