Nepal changes Everest climbing route to avoid avalanche risk

The Govt. of Nepal has decided to change the main route to climb Mt. Everest to avoid mishaps caused by avalanche. The Khumbu ice-fall is the deadliest avalanche-prone area in the climbing route to the highest peak of the world via south col. In the last year, 16 Sherpa were killed by a huge avalanche while they were trying to open the route during spring session. "We think the risk of avalanche in the left part of the Khumbu Icefall is growing and we are moving the route to the center where there is almost no such danger," the BBC quoted Ang Dorji Sherpa, chairman of the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, as saying.
