Nilkantha Abhijatri completes their expedition in the memory of Arupam Das

A 7 members team of Nilkantha Abhijatri Sangha launched its 23rd expedition to Mt CB-12 in the loving memory of renowned mountaineer Lt. Arupam Das. The team started from Kolkata on 29th of August. The team reached Base Camp (4400m) on 2nd of September via Batal, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh.
After 2 days of load ferry Camp-1 (5190m approx.) was occupied on 5th September, 2019 by leader Mohua Biswas (33), Sandip Bose (34), Pratanu Das (21) and Aniket Samanta (21) with 3 Sherpas Dukpa Tshering (52), Pgurba Sherpa (34) and Tenzing Norbu (21). Rest of the team members namely Amiya Kr. Barua (72), Avijit Banerjee (52) and Santanu Chattopadhyay (52) stayed in the Base Camp. On 6th September, Camp-2 (5780m) was established. Mohua Biswas returned to Base Camp while 3 members and 3 Sherpa occupied Camp-2.
In the intervening night of 7th, the team started for summit push at 1:40am and after continuous climbing the team reached at an altitude of approx 6230m. As leader says, "there was one unstable rock tower of about 50ft. The team moved upwards and gained a height of 30ft but could not find any place to stand. As per the advice of Dukpa Tshering the team came down and offered summit puja at an altitude of approx 6230m. at about 7.05hrs after placing a photograph of Lt. Arupam Das. The team descended to Camp-2 and after winding up all the upper camps the team returned to Base Camp at about 20.30hrs on the same day. Total of 540 of rope was fixed. All team members were returned to Manali safely on 10th September."
