Pune based Indian team reached the summit of Cho Oyo

On 14 th May 2016 Everester Ganesh More and Dr. Sumit Mandale reached the summit of Mt. Cho Oyu 8201M the sixth highest mountain in the world at 10.45am. With this feat Giripremi bagged the 4th eight thousander after Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Makalu. Mt. Cho Oyu is the westernmost major peak of the Khumbu sub-section of the Himalaya, 20 km west of Mount Everest. 
The team included Umesh Zirpe, Ganesh More and Sumit Mandale, along with Dawa Chiri Sherpa, Kame Chiri Sherpa and Lokpa Norbu Sherpa
The mountain stands on the China-Nepal border.The team approached the mountain from Tibetan plateau and attempted the summit through NorthWest ridge. The team started the summit bid on 11th May from base camp to camp1. The camp 1 is located in a saddle at 6,400 meters, at the base of the north-west ridge. The trail to camp 1 crosses a flattish glacier, followed by a hill with loose scree and stone. On 12th May the team started to Camp 2. The Camp 2 is located on a large flat plateau at 7,000 meters. The team started from Camp 2 on 13th May. They climbed ice wall to reach camp3. The camp 3 is located on a flat space of the northwest ridge-face at 7,450 meters. At the midnight of 14th May the team started the summit attempt. The team climbed through rock steps and mixed snow to reach the wide summit plateau followed by the long traverse to the hump that marks the summit, at 8,201 meters.
