Rescue operation of Kanakata underway, 2 bodies identified and 2 still missing in Lamkhaga

Yesterday, the State Disaster Response Team of Uttarkashi mistakenly reported five trekkers of Kanakata route as dead. They are not even traced, yet. Dream Wanderlust spoke to the Disaster Management team, working at Bageshwar today evening and got inputs on the rescue operation.
Four porters of the ill-fated team came down to Bageshwar and informed the police about the accident. One of the four porters is accompanying Indian Airforce team in Heli search operation to help them in spotting the location. Heli search operation was conducted four times today but due to low visibility and bad weather, the spot could not be located. Tomorrow, Airforce ALF helicopter will fly again to trace the missing trekkers.
Suderdunga Glacier Region
On the other side, a team of four SDRF personnels with Indian Army set out for Kanakata pass, yesterday. They are on the way to Kanakata pass. As per the last communication today morning over SatCom, the rescue team was then above Jatioli and 10kms below Kanakata pass. Most likely, the land rescue team will reach the spot by tomorrow. It is said that the mishap happened after passing the cross near Devi Kund, almost 6kms away from the pass. Today morning, another team has also started for Kanakata pass from Bageshwar. A medical team is ready at Bageshwar for emergency response.
Ambulance carrying mortal remains from Uttarkashi to New Delhi
Mortal remains of two trekkers of Lamkhaga mishap were recovered by ITBP yesterday and brought to Chitkul last night. Identification was carried out today, at Sangla PS, Himachal Pradesh. As per the report, they were identified as Richard Mondal, West Bengal and Upendra Chauhan, Uttarakhand. The search operation for other two members is still on. Mortal remains of five trekkers from the same team, Anita Rawat, Tanmay Tiwari, Saurabh Ghosh, Subhayan Das and Vikash Makal were brought to Harshil, yesterday. Remains of trekkers of West Bengal were brought to Uttarkashi and now are being brought to Delhi via road.
