Deforestation and demolition of hills are causing serious concern for the localities of Purulia and Bankura, and for environmentalists. Hills are getting cut for extraction of Granite.
A large number of trees are getting chopped down and forest fire is also occurring each year. Local people have come forward to protest against this exploitation of nature and started a movement, "Save Nature, Save Mountain" to protect the ecosystem.
1. To preserve the biodiversity of the area
2. To stop destroying/cutting of the hills and trees
3. To pursue the forest department to stop taking extra fees from the clubs who are organising rock climbing courses or nature study camps.

Editorial Note of the event at Bharatsabha Hall
Dear Friends,
From Atish Dipankar, Sarat Chandra Das to Rahul Sanskritayan and Sanku Maharaj, the quest to trek through Himalayas is still running through the veins of West Bengal. In the year of 1960, the first successful civil expedition to Nandaghunti initiated a movement for expedition not only in Bengal but also in the rest of the country. After that, in 1967, a civil women's team made our Bengal proud with their successful expedition of Ranti.
With the passage of time, mountaineering activities have increased manifold. This colorful journey went through different phases. With the blend of success and failure, the expedition to mountains has become an exciting and popular activity. Many clubs/ mountaineering institutes have been formed. Some eminent personalities with their earnest efforts founded the first Rock Climbing Camp in this country and Nature Camp at Susunia hill in Bankura to provide proper training and guidance to mountaineering enthusiasts. Later, more camps were set up at Mathaburu, Gajaburu, Joychandi, Boro Jhalda, Tilaboni, and other hillocks; and these are still going on. But, at present, a cloud is hanging over these Nature Camps.
Chandi Hill of Bero is almost destroyed. Cutting of Tilbani Hill at Hura Black has already been planned out. Concrete road has been made on Matha Pahar. Any day Jaychandi could also make it to this list, in the name of so-called development. Each year setting fire to the forests of Sushunia and Gajaburu has become a norm. On the other side, the Forest Department is asking for a huge amount of fees to issue permits for organizing Nature Camps. The way trees are being cut down thoughtlessly and the Nature Camps are getting affected, the situation may become much worse in the near future.
In the context of the above scenario, we are requesting all mountaineering expedition loving people to assemble at Bharatsabha Hall ( 62 BB Ganguly Street) on 14th May 2022 ( Saturday) at 5 P.M to discuss the above-mentioned subjects and to try to perform our moral duty to protect these nature camps.
We will be anticipating your valuable presence.
