The Ace Mountaineer Sushri Kumar Dutta Passes Away

Sushri Kumar Dutta, well known as 'Daka Da' in the mountaineering fraternity died on 26th, February in Kolkata. He was born on 23rd June 1935. Daka da started his professional journey by joining Martin Burn after passing his school finals. The advent of adventure in his life happened from the boy scout days of school life. The discipline instilled in Daka Da as a result of his boy scout days helped him to a great extent in his later life as well.

He obtained training in mountaineering from the Himalayan mountaineering institute. Post the training, Daka Da went on trekking in the Himalayas passing through the areas of Nepal, Sikkim, Garhwal, Kumaon, and Arunachal Pradesh. Besides trekking, he participated in mountaineering expeditions in Kamet and Tharkot. The range of his adventure extended from the desert in Rajasthan to the coastal line in Orissa.

He was actively involved with a number of mountaineering clubs and associations like Gangotri Glacier Exploration Committee, Trekkers' Guild, Himalayan Club Kolkata, and Youth Hostel Association, Kolkata.
