Brij Mohan Sharma (AKA Breeze), from Indian Navy with Phurba Sherpa has reached the summit of Everest from South side today at around 6:45 am. His Agency 'Satori adventures and expeditions' has informed us with the summit news today in the morning. He becomes first Indian Navy defence civilian to summit Mt. Everest.
Beside his successful carrier in mountaineering, he became the fastest Indian to complete 'Badwater Ultramarathon' in 2015. Badwater135 is known as the toughest footrace on earth. The runner needs to cover 135 miles (217 km) non-stop from Death Valley to Mt Whitney, California. The course covers three mountain ranges.
Started in 1987 with five runners, the single-stage race features a 135-mile (217km) course through one of the most desolate terrains of California. The run starts at 85m below sea level and sees a cumulative ascent of 4,450m through three mountain ranges. Even at midnight, the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius. Single stage essentially means the race must be completed in one go, within the cutoff period of 48 hours.
For the record, just two Indians have attempted the race in the past (Arun Bhardwaj in 2011, clocking 41 hours, 6 minutes, and Piyush Shah, who did not finish, in 2014). Sharma registered a time (40 hours, 47 minutes) that made him the fastest among Indians.
He has done his Basic and Advance mountaineering courses from JIM and NIM respectively. He has also done search and rescue course from NIM. He took part almost 21 mountain expeditions during last eight years. In 2013 Brij became the first Indian to have reached the summit of Kangyatse.
